This collective book, written by Catalan historians, archivists and Dignity Comission members, tells the story of this organisation's campaign in favour of the repatriation of the so-called "Salamanca Papers", a term used to refer to the public and private documents stolen by Franco in Catalonia in 1938 and 1939. These documents were taken to create a macabre police record office in Salamanca at the end of the Spanish Civil War. The book opens with a section explaining how and why the spoliation process took place and describes what remains today of the documents in the Archivo General de la Guerra Civil de España in Salamanca. The second section describes the attempts made by Catalan politicians to recover the documents between 1978 and 2002. The last section speaks of the activities of the Dignity Comission since 2002.
